Czech Lucie Safarova broke her title drought of over two years to claim the New York Forrest Hills event in New York against China’s Peng Shuai 6-4, 6-2.
The 21-year-old won the title for the second time, after winning in 2005, and notched the fourth of her injury-plagued career.
“I really enjoy it here; it’s a very calm place and I have great memories from my first title here,” Safarova said. “I was injured at the beginning of the year and haven’t had my best results, but this week has helped me regain my confidence in time for the US Open.
“I’ll celebrate this win and just look forward to New York.”
