Stosur Dazzles In Upset

Australia’s Samantha Stosur continued her impressive form today at the Japan Open, upsetting Spanish second-seed, Anabel Medina Garrigues, in straight sets.

On the back of a Korea Open final appearance last week, the 24-year-old raced through to the quarter-finals after winning 6-1, 7-5.

Stosur will now play eighth seed Aleksandra Wozniak, who cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ryoko Fuda.

In the men’s draw, fighting qualities saw David Ferrer defeat an inspired Takao Suzuki playing before a home crowd. The top seed rallied from a first set deficit to win 4-6 6-3 6-2.

Fellow seeded players, Andy Roddick, Fernando Gonzalez, Richard Gasquet and Juan-Martin Del Potro experienced few worries, all recording straight set victories.
