Spanish No. 2 David Ferrer believes the home crowd backing of Argentina will prove to be a major hurdle in Spain’s bid for a third Davis Cup title next month.
Ahead of the highly anticipated play-off in Mar del Plata, Ferrer insisted the support of a boisterous home crowd will favor the home side tremendously.
“They are very strong at home and the fans are very noisy. Maybe for that they are favorites,” Ferrer told Buenos Aires’ Clarin newspaper.
“I would like to have that public on my side, but we are not scared. We’re going to try not to let it affect us.”
While Spain has the trump card in World No. 1 Rafael Nadal, the Argentine’s are buoyed by the stunning rise of 19-year-old Juan Martin Del Potro, who started this week in the top 10.
The Davis Cup final will take place from November 21 to 23.
