Elena Dementieva notched her 50th win of the season for the first time, defeating German qualifier Tatjana Malek at the FORTIS Championships in Luxembourg yesterday.
The top seeded Russian, who is enjoying a superb run of 15 quarter-final appearances from 16 tournaments, posted a 7-6(5), 6-2 victory first up.
The match was Dementieva’s first since her 27 th birthday last week.
Fourth seeded Dane Caroline Wozniack was another seed to progress making light work of Swiss opponent Timea Bacsinszky, 6-2, 6-3.
The 18-year-old, whose ranking currently sits at No. 16, has had her most productive season so far with three titles to her name.
