Top seed Roger Federer secured some late season glory yesterday, with a third successive title in Basel, Switzerland.
This reigning US Open champion comfortably dispatched of Argentina’s David Nalbandian 6-3, 6-4 requiring only just one break in both sets to cruise to victory.
“I am overjoyed,” said Federer after winning his home-town event. “I served well and played aggressively so I couldn’t ask for more today.”
“There are two tournaments that I always dreamed about winning as a boy - Wimbledon and Basel.”
“When you realise a childhood dream and realise it again and again then it’s one of those places that you just want to keep winning even more at.”
Federer, a finalist in 2000 and 2001, continued his tournament streak of 15 consecutive wins.
