Consistency is the word for Jelena Jankovic, who was yesterday confirmed as the year-ending World No. 1 by the WTA Tour.
Despite having no Grand Slam titles to her name, the 23-year-old is content in the knowledge that the year ending ranking is now sewn up.
“It has been a truly amazing year for me,” said Jankovic, who boasts a 63-17 record for the year . ”Winning four WTA Tour titles, over 60 matches and to make it to two semi-finals and a final in the Grand Slams of 2008 is a dream come true.
”I worked really hard this year and to finish No.1 is where I want to be and where I hope to stay.”
Jankovic was the fifth player to hold the No. 1 ranking this year after Justine Henin (20 weeks), Maria Sharapova (three weeks), Ana Ivanovic (12 weeks) and Serena Williams (four weeks).
