The sister act continued for the Williams sisters on day six at Flushing Meadows, with Serena joining sister Venus in the round of 16 after a crushing win over Ai Sugiyama.
Serena, the 1999 and 2002 champion, monstered the pint-sized Japanese veteran 6-1, 6-2 and set up a meeting with Severine Bremond, who defeated Tathiana Garbin in the third round.
Meanwhile, older sister Venus defeated Ukraine’s Alona Bondarenko with an identical score line to her younger sister.
“The Wimbledon win helped me change my mentality, to realize not everything had to be perfect all the time,” said Williams, who holds a current 10-match Grand Slam winning streak.
“If I don’t have a perfect practice I don’t get really upset about the whole tournament.”
The 28-year-old will meet Serena in a Wimbledon final re-match if she can overcome rising Polish teen and ninth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the fourth round.
