Ana Ivanovic’s late season slump continues, with the World No.3 losing in three sets to Russian Nadia Petrova overnight.
Ivanovic was inconsistent in her second round match at the Pacific Open in Tokyo, with the Serbian having her serve broken three times in the opening set before going down 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 in the hard-court event.
Petrova will now face Polish sixth seed Agnieszka Radwanska, who defeated Frenchwoman Marion Bartoli 6-2, 6-3 in their second round match.
Top-seeded Jelena Jankovic also progressed, brushing aside Flavia Penetta 6-2, 6-1. After receiving a first-round bye, the Serb will now meet fifth seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarter-finals.
Kuznetsova thrashed Japanese wildcard Ayumi Morita 6-1, 6-1 in 45 minutes to advance.
Third-seed Elena Dementieva’s second-round match followed a similar script, with the No.4 cruising to a 6-0, 6-3 win over Alize Cornet.
