Jankovic Eases Through

Jelena Jankovic won her first match of the China Open overnight, after receiving a bye into the second round, beating Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak 6-3, 7-5.

Although Jankovic can’t take the World No. 1 ranking this week, a win in this tournament will leave her only 21 points behind Serena Williams. Both women will contest the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix next week.

Zheng Jie was able to revive China’s hopes with a 6-2, 6-3 win against World No. 10 Agnieszka Radwanska.

Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova was triumphant against Wimbledon quarter-finalist Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-1, 0-6, 7-5.

In the men’s event, eighth-seed Sam Querrey defeated American compatriot Jessie Levine 1-6, 6-2, 7-6(4).
